Amaryllis Quartett closes the Putbus Festival

Amaryllis Quartett, the artistic leaders of the Putbus Festival, would like to say its goodbye for this year with a glass of wine and some refreshments in the theatre foyer.

As a reverberation of the previous concerts, the musicians present excerpts from Beethoven’s String Quartet in C minor op. 18/4.

According to the Chamber Music Guide (www.kammermusikfuehrer.de), the “correct quartet composition” meant for Beethoven a consistent working through the movement in four voices following Haydn’s paradigm. For him, it was all about the theme depth, concision of motives, and dramatization of forms.  His Quartet in C minor op. 18/4 is quite different, though. Various special features suggest new musical influences. That is why we are looking forward to hear the interpretation of Amaryllis Quartett, which is well known for its fresh, intelligent and unconventional musical style.

One of the Süddeutsche Zeitung reviews of an Amaryllis Quartett’s concert was very much to the point: “It is really surprising to hear furious old Beethoven sound so light and poetic. The introduction remains lyrical, which turns the slow movement into the climax. The four musicians unfold the chain of variations with inner calm, and this seems to open doors to heaven“.
