Deckchair Concert II

Xenon Saxophone Quartet

Admission: € 30, incl. champagne reception, children up to 12 years free

Listening to the exhilarating and dynamic performances of the Xenon Saxophone Quartet in a deckchair while also enjoying a fantastic view of the Rügische/Greifswalder Bodden and the island of Vilm! Is there anything more beautiful.

And that the four virtuoso masters of their trade can play against wind and water was something that festival guests were able to experience in 2019 on the sailing ship "Ernestine". Now the scholarship holders of the German Music Competition are coming back to Putbus with many of their own arrangements on the subject of AIR and can be experienced on the promenade behind the Badehaus Goor in Putbus, at the height of the playground.

If the weather is bad, the event will take place in the "Marina im Jaich" in Lauterbach.

Winner of international awards, the Xenon Saxophone Quartet is one of the young hopefuls of the chamber music scene. Since its founding in 2010, the ensemble has brought old and new together in contrasting programmes. Premieres can be heard next to forgotten music from the last centuries, classical string quartets next to original literature for saxophone quartet.

The ensemble was named after the noble gas xenon, which is extremely rare on earth. In its monotony it finds an image for its ideal of interaction and ensemble sound. Graphically, the initial "X" also symbolizes that four individualists who share a passion for the saxophone and for extraordinary quartet programs come together in intensive work processes. Together they develop interpretations that preserve the spirit of the selected pieces and at the same time correspond to the four young musicians' desire for expression.

Lukas Stappenbeck (soprano), Anže Rupnik (alto), Álvaro Arias (tenor) and Benjamin Reichel (baritone) studied with Prof. Daniel Gauthier. They did the Master of Music in "Chamber Music" and the Master of Music in the main subject "New Music" at the University of Music and Dance in Cologne. In addition, they owe important suggestions and insights to well-known musicians, such as Günter Pichler from the Alban Berg Quartet, Ulrich Isfort from the Minguet Quartet, Heime Müller, the former member of the Artemis Quartet, Dirk Mommertz from the Fauré Quartet or Hans-Dietrich Klaus and Prof. David Smeyers .

Xenon works with contemporary composers and commissions new pieces for saxophone quartet, e.g. from Daniel Alvarado Bonilla, Damian Scholl or Macarena Rosmanich. It also works on existing pieces with the composers themselves, most recently with Georg Friedrich Haas's saxophone quartet.

The Xenon Saxophone Quartet, which received a scholarship from the German Music Competition, plays numerous concerts in Germany and abroad, takes part in festivals such as the Ludwigsburg Castle Festival, was involved in Cologne with Yehudi Menuhin - LiveMusicNow and made music in various radio programs (DLF, WDR, NDR , MDR, SWR).
